Sections B & C are done. We are doing the top-left section. |
Sorting by color is first. We even create a color priority list because some pieces have multiple colors. |
First was green and then pink. |
Yellow was next. |
Red pieces all sorted. Notice how they are organized by how much black was on the piece. |
All that's left is the white. |
Sorted by shape. |
Doing the white is all about finding the duplicates. |
All done! |
Hi Scott! I would LOVE to see a video on how you guys flip a section over without pieces falling out and also how you contact paper the back. I plan on using your process for the Life puzzle as I complete the sections so this would be extremely informative. I'm sure there are other puzzlers out there who would also like to see how you guys do this.

I don't know how you guys keep from going buggy-eyed doing the sections one on top of the other. While I can see it would make it easier to find pieces, I don't think I could do it very long as it would really bother my eyes.
You get used to it after a while. It is actually not that bad when you are working on the section. When you step back and look at it it is kinda hard to look at. The benefits far outweigh any drawbacks.
ReplyDeleteI found the repeating patterns in the "Life" puzzle as well. It sure does make things easier when you know what shape you're looking for!
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled across your blog from your http://www.aegroup.com/puzzle/ site. You are my total hero! I am a bit of a big-jigsaw novice; just working on my first 3,000 piece one at the moment, then am intending on doing my first 9,000 piece one. After that I'd really like to get my hands on this one or the LIFE one! They look epic! I really appreciate you sharing your methods with us, especially in terms of backing/mounting etc, as I was wondering how I was going to go about doing that..!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to continuing to follow your blog, and I do hope you continue to post your puzzle adventures!
All the best,
AJ
Thanks AJ!
ReplyDeleteHello Mr Slater
ReplyDeleteI've just bought the 8000 pcs puzzle and I have a question: when we are doing a part after that are we gluing it or no?How can we over turned a part?
Thanks Scott
